She’s stylish and talented; Teni Adeola is the next big thing in fashion according to Teen Vogue and we’re inclined to agree. Take a look!

Laying eyes on Teni Adeola, you might be mistaken for thinking she’s a model or style influencer but
this talented young designer » is the woman behind a new label that’s in everyone’s sights. Meet Teni Adeola, the young designer behind rising label ‘Slashed by Tia’.
20 year old Teni Adeola is a student in college at The New School majoring in Culture and Media. Judging by Teni’s Instagram, she’s certainly a young woman with style in abundance. Often spotted in luxury labels such as Fendi, Dior and Gucci , Teni has a sense of style that is a force to be reckoned with. However, the most important brand of all, is her very own, ‘Slashed by Tia’.

According to, Teni began her career in fashion as an intern in Lagos, Nigeria. She was 12 when she was given an opportunity to work under
celebrated Nigerian designer Ituen Basi » . Around that time, she began reading fashion-history books, designer biographies, and old magazines, as well as taking more traditional, hands-on sewing classes and textile workshops. Basi would urge Tia to pursue this type of fashion scholarship and commit to research before designing and experimenting with complex silhouettes, a lesson that remains with her today.
Having learnt what she could from Basi, Teni went on to start her own label when she was just 18 during her first year of university, in New York. Teni began by making clothes for herself; clothes that she felt comfortable and beautiful in, in the hopes that other girls would feel the same. Judging by the large following she has amassed on Instagram, it’s clear that the brand has resonated with other young women like herself.
Slashed by Tia pieces are instantly recognisable . A sea of ruffles and frills in sheer fabrics, Slashed by Tia’s pieces aren’t for the faint-hearted. The brightly coloured sheer outfits are a battle cry for the female body, designed to show it off in all its glory.
Speaking to the, Teni describes her aesthetic as “whimsical but still badass” , and credits the inspiration behind her designs as the renaissance period. And, much like a painting, she wants women to feel like “all eyes are on them when they walk into the room”.
Havig shown at fashion weeks in Lagos, Paris and New York and worn by celebrities including Gigi Hadid, Dua Lipa, Jourdan Dunn and SZA, ‘Slashed by Tia’ is already scaling dizzying heights. Teni’s most recent accolade was from Teen Vogue who placed her firmly in the ’21 under 21 class’ which ‘spotlights extraordinary young women, girls, and femmes making waves in their industries or passions of choice.’
According to the publication:
When you think of the designers worn by some of today’s top style stars, the names that come to mind are probably Gucci, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, and more. But you might need to start adding Teni Adeola — or as she’s better known, Slashed by Tiato — to that group. The 21-year-old Nigerian-born fashion designer (everyone calls her Tia) may still be in college, but her work is being shown all over the fashion-focused streets. This past summer, Gigi Hadid stepped out in one of Tia’s eye-catching designs and catapulted her clothing into the spotlight.
Tia doesn’t want to just add beautiful clothing to the world, the designer also hopes to change fashion as a whole. “I feel like in fashion now, particularly in shows, everyone looks like soldiers,” she says. “The average girl does not look like that. I have friends who are models and I know what they go through to maintain their appearance. People advise me saying, ‘You need tall models on the runway. They need to be skinny; it looks more professional. That’s what the big designers do.’ But if it takes me a little longer to reach my full potential because I won’t conform to that, I’m OK with it.”
